Coldplay are funding a new movie starring Ray Winstone, Lesley Manville and Jim Sturgess.
The thriller Ashes is being directed by their friend Mat Whitecross, who they met while at university. Mat has taken the helm on several Coldplay videos including Lovers In Japan, Violet Hill and their most recent single, Christmas Lights. He also directed the Ian Dury biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.
But the lads aren’t just putting up the money – Chris Martin, Will Champion, Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland will also gain hands-on experiences as executive producers on the flick, due for release in 2012.
The film’s budget is thought to be just under £5m and filming begins next week on the Isle of Man.
Coldplay’s fifth album is said to be coming along nicely and this week they released footage of themselves hard at work in the studio. The rockers are headlining the Saturday night of this year’s Glastonbury Festival. [Source]
