The star-studded event, in aid of music charity Nordoff Robbins, a favourite charity of the music industry, will take place on Friday 28 June 2013 at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Chris Martin of Coldplay said ‘It means a huge amount to us to be named Best British Act by Nordoff Robbins at the 2013 O2 Silver Clef Awards. Nordoff Robbins is an organisation that lies very close to our hearts. They provide life-changing music therapy for thousands of people each year and we’re humbled to collect this award in their honour.’

The event is a highlight in the music industry calendar, recognised for its A-list attendees as well as the impressive auction prizes up for grabs at the lunch.

Written by filmmaker Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) with help from the British band, the six-part saga depicts an Orwellian society ruled by a supremacist government that controls the population via fear tactics and over-stimulation through media and propaganda. Issues 1-3 are now available exclusively via Apple’s iBookstore, with the rest of the series to be released monthly until July. Issue 1 is currently available for free as the iBookstore’s Book of the Week.

In conjunction, Coldplay has announced a special release for the upcoming April 20 Record Store Day that packages the “Mylo Xyloto” album (which has sold over six million copies) with Issue 1 and a special 7-inch vinyl picture disc featuring “Hurts Like Heaven” and “Us Against The World (Live).”

The Mylo comic books are published by Matt Groening’s celebrated Bongo Comics Group.

Coldplay is in good company among other band-branded graphic arts series. Indie artist Daniel Johnston has been a longtime comic artist and released the book Space Ducks last year. My Chemical Romance frontman’s Gerard Way’s Eisner Award-winning comic book The Umbrella Academy is currently being developed into a feature film by Universal.

Former Misfits frontman, Glenn Danzig, runs the mature-themed comic book company Verotik and with Henry Rollins is the subject of the hilarious unauthorized Henry & Glenn Forever comic. KISS have been the subject of comics since their inception in the ’70s, including a Marvel-published origin story that was supposedly printed using the band members’ blood. Tom Morello authored a saga of the heroine Orchid, a teenage prostitute in a post-apocalyptic society. And Amanda Palmer recently co-wrote the graphic novel Evelyn Evelyn about conjoined twins who, er, double as sideshow performers. [Source]

Land grabbing is the practice of banks, individuals or governments buying huge plots of land in poor countries for profit, which is damaging to those who live there, who can end up without a home or livelihood. The video seeks to highlight this issue by showing the sense of being out of place.

Fans have been asked to submit video or photo footage by March 20 for the chance to be included in the video. Coldplay’s music video and film director Mat Whitecross will stitch the best of the footage together to make the final cut.

“People are being asked to move something favourite, personal or familiar from their home to somewhere it doesn’t belong. Alternatively, they could do something personal, everyday, familiar that they’d usually do at home, in totally the wrong place.” The video will launch in April when The World Bank has its Annual Spring Meeting and aims to encourage people to take action and try.

Meanwhile, Coldplay recently spoke out about the closure of the iconic London gig venue The Bull & Gate. Writing a letter to a local London newspaper, the band stated “Long live the Bull. We’ll always be grateful.” [Source]

The British band beat Muse and Mumford & Sons to win best live act at the event.

“We’re always pleased to come to these things and to win is amazing,” said drummer Will Champion when interviewed backstage after the ceremony.

“We feel that we’ve worked very hard at our live shows so to get a bit of recognition is wonderful.”

Coldplay started experimenting with giving the crowd at their shows digital wristbands that flash in time to their live music in October 2011.

Since then the Xylobands have become an integral part of the Coldplay live experience.

Will Champion felt their latest Brit win also honoured their wider creative team.

He said: “It’s a great thing because we’ve been able to use things made by exceptional people – people like Jason Regler who invented the wristbands that we use.

“He had an idea about five years ago to invent this little thing while he was watching one of our shows on TV.

“So to bring an idea like that out and then let it do its thing is a brilliant thing.”

Coldplay’s Jonny Buckland was also at the Brit Awards while Chris Martin and Guy Berryman were not able to attend.

When asked if any new music was materialising since 2011′s Mylo Xyloto, it was an emphatic “no” from lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, although he did concede he was doing “the occasional jam session” with Will Champion.

“It’s nothing productive though,” the drummer was keen to point out.

“It’s absolutely dreadful. Garbage, abstract, avant-garde nonsense.

“So you shall never hear of it, even if we released it you’d never hear it.” [Source]

The group spoke about plans for what would be their sixth studio record backstage at the Brits on Wednesday (February 20), after picking up the prize for ‘Best Live Band’.

Asked about new material by Radio 2′s Jo Whiley, guitarist Jonny Buckland said: “There is a theoretical album [in the works].”

Drummer Will Champion went on to say: “Me and Jonny have been going into the studio just noodling; we go in and noodle for an hour and then go get a cup of tea or coffee! No, there’s rumblings [of a new album].”

When Whiley proposed that Coldplay’s next project could be more stripped-back and acoustic, Champion replied: “Yeah, that might be nice, actually. There’s only so far you can go without becoming pompous and a bit overblown.”

Champion added to BBC Newsbeat that the band’s latest sessions are sounding “absolutely dreadful”, adding: “[It's] garbage, abstract, avant-garde nonsense. So you shall never hear of it, even if we released it you’d never hear it.” [Source]
